Eco Fabrics

AraStar is committed to sustainability and searches for the highest quality, lowest impact fibers and manufacturing methods. From start to finish, I want all my fabrics to be as healthy as possible for you and the planet. There are lots of factors that weigh in on the sustainability of a manufactured product. The fiber source, farming methods, processing, dying, and finishing must be all be considered. Third party certificates are now bringing a new level of oversight & legitimacy to the textile industry. I proudly source materials certified by Oeko-Tex, WRAP, EcoCert, GOTS, IMO, and others. Here's the deets on my primary fabrics...

Silk Screen Inks ☆

My Silk Screen Inks are plastisol based inks that have been Oeko-Tex 100 Certified. Unlike water-based inks, these inks do not harden on my screens, and therefore my operation does not require any water consumption, nor water contamination. I simply scrape the excess ink back into the container and reuse it the next time I print. On rare occasions, I use simple citrus based solvents to clean my screens. These plastisol inks require heat curing, and are known to be very stretchy, durable, and maintain their metallic luster after repeated washings.

Care Instructions for Long Lasting Wear ☆

Certified Organic Cotton is just as durable and easy to care for as conventional cotton. Since most of my items are comprised of 30% or more Organic Cotton, most items can be machine washed on warm and tumble dried on the "cotton" heat setting.

Hemp / Organic Cotton items can be washed in hot or warm water and tumble drying them helps to soften the fabric over time. In general, hemp will "wear in" to a comfy and durable softness, instead of "wearing out" like other weaker fibers.

Soy Viscose / Bamboo Viscose / Lycra Fabrics are a little more delicate. I recommend washing any viscose and lycra content fabric in cold water. These garments will maintain their elasticity for many years to come if they are air dried. However, they can also be tumble dried on the "delicate" setting.

Screen Printed Garments will maintain their lustrous shine and elasticity best if they are turned inside out, washed in cold water only, and air dried.
